Current Information:Age-22 Suffolk Cemetery, Vierstraat, Begium
On 23rd March, 1915, the 2nd Suffolk battalion of 14 Brigade, 5th Division were in the front line at Vierstraat in Belgium when Francis Schroder was killed and ten men wounded. The battalion diary recorded that the damage was caused by a rifle grenade landing in one of the trenches. According to the records of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission he was killed on 15th March when the battalion was in billets but this is obviously a mistake. |
